Believe me, I understand! I will teach you the strategies I implement to find a few hours in each week to start and build your business.
The simple answer is, you do not need a degree to build a bookkeeping business! This is not what qualifies you. The three keys for qualification are, being able to manage people (can you say your little people in your home get to school, appointments, etc.), time (again, everyone in your house gets to point A to point B each day!) and resources (your household budget operates each month and you’re the manager).
Me too! I stayed home with my 3 children until they reached school age and believe me, you are equipped to run a bookkeeping business! Managing a home is complex and without you even realizing it, has equipped you with the tools you need to get started. You have learned how to manage people, time and resources.
I teach to set your business up on schedules. If you have a schedule in place for each client and for each task that needs to be completed for each client, you can manage your work load. QBO can be accessed from anywhere in the world, so I’ve never had an issue processing payroll during a vacation. I’ve also been able to get the needed tasks completed before hand so that I’m all caught up & can leave work at home while I go on vacation. Flexibility is possible with this business model. Also, you may have a vision of hiring another bookkeeper to help you. If this is the case, then you will lead that bookkeeper and train them to do the needed work while you have to be “away” from your business.
I teach to select one platform to use and go with it. I like using Quickbooks Online Accountant. I have found that QBO is seamless. Also with QBO the client can log in as well as you. You as the accountant control what they can and can’t do in the software. And the cost is minimal. From your side, the accountant, it is under $40 a month for the software, plus your set of books is free. (Wholesale price) Then you can decide what fee you will charge your client. You can make many different software work, I have found success for virtual bookkeeping with QBO.
To start your business, you will need to make it official with the state and that’s about $100. I discuss the options available to meet all budget needs, even for those who are on a limited budget.
Making the decision to build your business is the first step. Now that you are committed, we walk you through how to do it. Allowing yourself at least one hour a day or about 6 hours a week, you will be able to start! This can be before the kids get up or after they go to bed. I have had clients commit their Saturdays to their business, and do very well.
I remember the exact location of where I was when I made the decision to start offering bookkeeping services. (Can you say pivotal moment!) I also had no clients and began to add clients one by one. We walk you through how to become fully booked with clients you love just like I did.
